I have always been interested in the outdoors. I was active in Scouting when I was young and did a lot of camping and hiking. I taught most of the nature merit badges at Camp Steere which was the local scout camp in the Charlotte area for many years. Camp Steere was on Lake Wylie very close to the Buster Boyd Bridge. I was involved in the 1950’s.
That led me to studying botany and forestry in college which eventually led me in to my profession. I was in the tree maintenance business for 42 years.
Environmental issue are one of my major interest, and I think what I observe might be of interest to others. If you care to follow those thoughts, check out the                        Environmental page

Charlotte’s larger trees are really suffering. I have been watching trees in Charlotte for many years, and there are many of them that are on the verge of dying. The droughts of recent years have affected them; however rainfall has improved in 2009. Cankerworm attacks over the years have also weakened some trees.

If you want to see the history of the cankerworm in this area go to cankerworm. You can read about this current years status and follow a daily count of cankerworms on a large willow oak .... see Current Cankerworm Information.         read more Charlotte’s Trees

Below are some of my koi.

The three most prominent koi below are from our main pond. The two butterfly are Andy who is the male and Mistress who is the female. These two koi are the ones I have bred from for almost ten years. They always produce some beautiful babies. Some of their young are still in the pond and have become really pretty. These and others will be for sale later in the Spring of 2009.

Also see a few more photos from our collection below.

Below
Yamabuki butterfly koi is about 22 inches long and I have had him for years. The Sanke is one from Quality Koi and I particularly like the lightning strike on the nose. When he arrived, I said I need that one for my own pond.

Lightning is in this photo also, but a really fine fish is the Kujaku on the right. This is turning into a very fine specimen. In front of the koi is a willow oak leaf floating on the water. The leaf should be two or more inches long which will give you an idea how large these fish are.
